ThermoPhase - Fluid and Complex Systems Research Group

UDESC / LNCC

ThermoPhase

Co-leader

ThermoPhase is a multi-institutional research group based at both LNCC and UDESC. It studies thermodynamic modeling and numerical simulation of complex fluids, connecting data and machine learning. Applications include carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and underground hydrogen storage (UHS), in the context of the energy transition.

Activities include student supervision and development of tools such as torch-flash and thermoml-io, with documented computational examples and reusable Python packages.

IPES - Innovative Parallel Finite Element Solvers

Member

The IPES group at LNCC develops and analyzes numerical methods for multiscale problems, combining finite elements, parallel computing and scientific software. Research topics include hybrid mixed multiscale methods and flow simulation in heterogeneous media. Furthermore, IPES investigates the combination of machine learning (e.g., Neural Operators) with classical numerical methods, aiming to propose new hybrid methods.
